CROWN | Prosthetic Dentistry
A crown (caps) is a type dental restoration which completely caps or encircles a tooth or dental implant.
INDICATION
- Smile design
- Aesthetically
- Endodontically treated teeth
- Surveyed crown
- Fractured teeth
- Discoloration of teeth
- Extensive damage by decay
- Fractured in old filling
- Correction of contours of teeth
- Use as a retainer for FPD
- Restoration of badly damaged tooth
- Implant supported tooth
- Patient with active caries
- Patient with untreated periodontal disease

2.Low nobel alloy- platinum,palladium
3.Non nobel alloy-Nickel or chromium
b) PFM ( porcelain fused to metal dental crown)
c) All resin dental crown
d) All ceramic or all porcelain dental crown

- To modify axial tooth contour
- High resistance to deformation
Disadvantage
- Appearance not natural tooth
PFM CROWN
Porcelain fused to metal crowns looks like natural teeth and stronger than ceramic

- Strong enough to withstand heavy biting pressure
- Good choice for anterior teeth
DISADVANTAGE
- Dark line found at the crown’s edge.
- Sometime gum recession
- Can be chip or break off
- In heavy bite can wear tooth
