IMMEDIATE DENTURE | Prosthetic Dentistry
An immediate denture is a complete or removable partial denture that is constructed prior to the extraction of teeth which it will replace and is inserted immediately following the removal of natural teeth.

ADVANTAGES
- Maintenance of appearance
- Tooth selection and arrangement can be easily duplicated
- Maintaince of the masticatory movement patterns of the mandible
- Maintaince of vertical and maxilla-mandibular relationsip so changes in the facial muscle tone and supporting structure are reduced.
- Superior neuromusculature control.
- Minimum interference with speech.
- Fast adaptation to immediate denture
- Prevention of tongue enlargement
- Possible control on alveolar ridge resorption
- Healing period with teeth
- Improve appearance
- Spilnt to control bleeding
- Prevent patient embarrassment after extraction
DISADVANTAGES
- If poor oral health then it may be infection or edema following extraction of teeth.
- Additional treatment time
- The additional expence of relining immediate dentures three to six months after insertion.
- Less retention is expected.
CONTRAINDICATION
- Patient with acute infections such as periapical abscesses or periodontal abscesses.
- Patient under radiation therapy
- Extensive bone loss
- Patient with severe gag reflex
