OVER DENTURE | Prosthetic Dentistry


An over denture is one which is designed to enter the shape of height of the occlusion surface of the teeth over which its fits.

INDICATION
  1. Congenital or acquire defect of oral cavity.
  2. Severe wearing of teeth 
  3. Few teeth remaining in one jaw
  4. Abnormal size of jaw
  5. Loss of alveolar bone is rapid
  6. Post traumatic or post surgically in jaw
  7. For correction of prognatic occlusion
  8. To improve function of esthetic in badly attrition of teeth

CONTRAINDICATION
  1. Absence of patient motivation 
  2. Less  inter arch distance
  3. Bad oral hygiene

ADVANTAGE
  1. Cosmetic result excellent
  2. Relieve deep bite or traumatic bite
  3. Improve masticatory efficiency
  4. Mastication possible in abnormal occlusion
  5. Increased stability
  6. Retention well
  7. Preservation of alveolar bone
DISADVANTAGES
  1. To maintain proper oral hygiene surrounding abutment
  2. Require high level patient motivation
  3. High cost than conventional denture
