Bonding | Cosmetic Dentistry


Bonding is a procedure that uses a tooth-colored composite resin (plastic) to repair a tooth. Bonding is typically used for cosmetic purposes to improve the appearance of a discolored or chipped tooth, close spaces between teeth, to make teeth look longer or to change the shape or color of teeth. It is also used as an alternative to amalgam fillings, or to protect a portion of the tooth's root that has been exposed when gums recede.

Bonding consists in the application of tooth-colored composite resin material that looks like the natural enamel to surface of tooth where it is sculpted into shape and contoured.

First shade guide to select the composite resin color that will most closely match the color of the tooth then etching the tooth and conditioning liquid when tooth is prepared, apply resin molds and smoothes the resin until its proper shape.

Then it is hardened with an ultraviolet light or laser. Once material is hard, further trim and shape it, then polishing the tooth. Tea, coffee, smoking cigarette can stain the resin used in bonding to prevent it regular brushing teeth.
